It felt like a slight. Or maybe just logistics.
Fans noticed right away. Lana Del Rey wasn’t there. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce tied the knot on July 3 inside Madison Square Garden. The place was packed. A thousand guests. The guest list read like an A-list bingo card. Reese Witherspoon. Brad Pitt.
Then there was the absence.
Blake Lively didn’t show. Nor did Del Rey. This after years of tight proximity. They’ve been friends since 2012. Since those MTV EMAs years ago. In 2019 Del Rey collaborated on “Snow on the Beach” with Swift. More recently? They were basically roommates at events. Super Bowl 2025. The Grammys. Even the workroom—both lean heavily on Jack Antonoff.
So where was she?
Oli Abba’s birthday party.
Yes. That’s who she was with.
YouTuber Oli Abba is someone she met randomly at the 2023 Billboards. Not Swift’s inner circle. But there was a party. Del Rey and her sister Caroline Grant showed up in the photos posted to Abba’s Instagram.
She made a point to clarify her whereabouts in the comments section. Busy, apparently. Very busy.
“Ahh we love you so much best weekend ever,” she typed out. Then came the explanation about hanging out on the 4th. Celebrating the YouTuber’s birthday a bit early. Then doing it again the next day. “Double wishes.”
Her own home. In Louisiana. Her husband Jeremy Dufrene was helping prep for it all. She even posted a snap of him getting the house ready. It looks like they had a good time. Loud music probably. Bad food maybe. Real people stuff.
Did she miss the wedding because of this? Likely. The weekend overlapped perfectly. You can’t be at MSG in July heat and in a Louisiana backyard on July Fourth. Pick one. She picked her new friends. Or just a chill vibe over a spectacle.
It’s a shift. From the Swiftian orbit to a local celebration. Who knew the YouTuber crowd had that much pull. Maybe she just needed a break. Maybe she likes the heat better now.
The door was open for the wedding. It wasn’t locked. She just didn’t walk through it.
That’s a choice too. Isn’t it.
